“How do I write a great blog article?” How to use blogging and content marketing as essential components of an effective digital campaign
* Blog articles can boost SEO, draw website traffic, and provide engaging social media content.
* Effective blog content informs, persuades, and contains a call-to-action.
* Blogging is one of the most cost-effective marketing methods available.
Before sitting down to write your next blog article, take a few minutes to read this one to understand why you are writing it.
What many writers fail to consider when crafting a blog post is how it will benefit them. Sure, it’s great to share quality content, which helps build your credibility and status as a thought leader; but what are the real benefits of publishing an article on your blog? This article will provide tips on making sure your blog content not only provides value to your readers, but also works to your advantage.
Develop strategic goals and include a call-to-action
Every article on your blog needs to include an underlying call-to-action. You are providing content – not only to inform your readers – but to motivate them to take an action. This action is generally the next step in learning about your product or service. An article without the call-to-action amounts to a wasted effort on your part.
A better plan is to think of the action you’d like a reader to take first, and then craft a blog article. This piece is a great example. The call-to-action I would like you to take is to look into our blog-writing services. Generally, I do not introduce the call-to-action this early in the article, , but after all, this post is about how to benefit from blog articles. What better way to demonstrate my point than by showing it in action?
Once you’ve identified your goal, draft an article that provides the reader with valuable, actionable content that they can apply immediately. You can either present your article and then include your call-to-action at the bottom (see below), or you can embed it within the article, as I’ve done above. Either way, make sure you include the next step you’d like your reader take.
Another technique is to use a banner ad with your call-to-action in the middle of the article to grab the reader’s attention. This banner should lead to a landing page or sales page that explains the benefits of the product/service offered, and then shows the prospect next steps. Here is an example:
Your blog article is not the place to conduct business. You want to reserve your blog for providing excellent content; let your sales page do the selling. The only selling you should be doing on your blog is persuading the reader to learn more about what you are offering. You want the prospect to take the next step in the process in converting from a blog reader to a customer. This could be signing up for a newsletter, registering for a course, downloading a free report, visiting a sales page, or scheduling a consultation.
How does SEO work with my blog article?
High-quality, topical content is a magnet to attract readers to your blog. But you have to make it easy for people who want your information to find it. It’s important to write your content using the words and phrases that readers may use to research your topic. And three of the best places to use these phrases are in your article’s title, sub-title and section headers.
Again, take this article for example. My title has the phrase “Writing Blog Articles” in it, the subtitle has “How do I write a great blog article,” and my section headers have “What is a call-to-action,” “How does SEO work with my blog article,” and “How can I promote my blog on social media?” These are all words and phrases people type into Google to find the content that I am offering in this article.
Google loves blog articles. They reward you for writing quality content – but you have to make it easy for people to find you. And don’t intentionally overstuff your article with keywords. That will provoke Google’s ire, and they could penalize you for trying to game the system.
How can I promote my blog on social media?
The best and most cost-effective way to lure readers to your blog article is by crafting teasers and posting them on social media. So while you are writing, try to use phrases that can be pulled directly from the article and posted on social media. In addition to my titles and headings, this article is jam-packed with quotes that can be taken word-for-word or slightly paraphrased for posting on social media. Here are a few examples:
