Instagram has just announced a new feature that will allow users to share feed posts and Reels with only their Close Friends. This is part of a larger shift we’ve seen on the app towards more private connections.
Some further updates show that smaller group sharing is gaining more traction: Instagram is also allowing users to respond to inbox Notes with GIFs, photos, audio clips, and more. An ‘Events’ function is coming too, which will allow users to create in-stream chat groups around a specific function.
One more function is coming soon: a Nearby feed for Stories, which will show users content from other users and businesses in their area.
Next, YouTube is implementing labels for AI-generated content that will “require creators to disclose when they’ve created altered or synthetic content that is realistic, including using AI tools.” Failure to make these disclosures could result in suspension from monetization or even account suspension.
And finally, Threads is adding the option to delete your profile without affecting your Instagram presence. In a similar vein, users can opt out of having their Threads content visible on Facebook and Instagram.
And that’ll do it for now. We’ll catch you next week!
