Greetings, all! Here’s the scoop on what’s happening in social media this week.
First up, YouTube has some updates. The platform is currently testing out a full screen viewing presentation for live streaming. They describe it like this: “This new vertical live experience includes a scrollable live stream feed and easily accessible fan funding features. During this experiment, creators can stream vertically, either on mobile devices with the YouTube app or through desktop streaming software, and their vertical streams will be visible to eligible viewers browsing Shorts on the YouTube app.”
Updated ad control options are also coming in November. And lastly, a new “Playables” element is coming, games that can be played both in the app and on the desktop version of YouTube.
According to YouTube, Playables are: “games that can be played directly on YouTube on both desktop and mobile devices. If you’re part of this experiment, you’ll see a section on YouTube called “Playables” that will appear alongside other content on the home feed. We’re testing this with a limited number of users to start.”
Next, Instagram is giving users the option to hide their like activity from view, with the option to limit visibility or hide likes entirely.
And finally, Meta is looking to draw more attention to the metaverse project with a new series of collaborations with 15 US universities, designed to broaden the use of immersive technology in education. Here’s a look at the program.
That’s all for today! We’ll catch you next week.
