What’s happening in social media this week? A lot for Instagram! Let’s take a look at the highlights:

  • Notes are getting more popular, especially with teens using the app. The next version of this feature is coming to profiles and feed posts – where mutual followers can leave notes and looping videos for each other that expire after a short time.
  • An option that prevents users from expanding one’s profile image.
  • “Add Yours” templates on Stories. Available now!

Also, Threads has some features coming for New Year’s celebrations, plus further testing for their API.

TikTok is testing some desktop-based tools and improvements to the Creative Center, including a chatbot to help users find what they need. Also, if you use TikTok on a tablet or other foldable device, you might notice some improved UI for larger screens.

And finally, LinkedIn is bringing in AI to its educational tools. Tomer Cohen, Chief Product Officer at LinkedIn explained it this way: “Learners can go into LinkedIn Learning and ask a question or explain a challenge they are currently facing at work… AI-powered coaching will pull from the collective knowledge of our expansive LinkedIn Learning library and, instantaneously, offer advice, examples, or feedback that is personalized to the learner’s skills, job, and career goals.”

Other expansions include: Professional Certifications, short videos to help users learn skills faster, and quick, specific notifications related to job openings. Learn more here

And that’s all for now. Have a happy new year!
